IN TRANSIT! I got this bass earlier this year and knew it had "issues" but I also knew it had a superior vibe. So using my Swami Intuition I took a chance and set aside. Well I finally got a chance to address all the issues and my instincts were on the money; this is one great bass. Lets talk about the issues.

First, the serial number is boogered up but A) I know it's not stolen and B) it's from the era of S8 and S9 bases that were all assembled between 1980 and 1982. The pots on this one date 20th week of 1980 so that takes care of that. Second, someone tried a 4-bolt neck on this bass at one point and there are 2 extra holes on the body. I left them alone because they are very inconspicuous and one is actually covered by the correct plate.

Third, the truss rod nut would not adjust the neck fully. So I put on my Official Swami Thinking Cap (pat. pend.) and as suspected, the original truss rod nut wasn't threaded far enough down the barrel so I put another one on that was. Voila! The neck is almost perfectly straight with lots of room for adjustment if needed. Fourth, the last 8 frets had been gradually leveled as they approached the end of the neck. Apparently, the original owner (or an incompetent luthier) wasn't aware of the neck-tilt adjustment. The Swami worked his magic and the neck plays from top to bottom without buzzing or dead spots. Granted, the last few frets only have about 40 percent fret life remaining but who among us just camps out on the top 3 frets? Besides we're talking a decade before the bass would need fret work, even with steady playing.

This has morphed into a bass I would truly keep for myself but I'm not a fan of the narrow Jazz Bass necks. Everything is original and the pickups have a snarl that harks back to an early 70's Fender. It's got a nice ash body and weighs in right around 10 lbs, so it's not a shoulder-wrecker. It feels like a 9-pounder and I'm not making that up. Comes in a nice SKB that is formfit inside for the Jazz body. I've priced this at a flat 1500 with FREE shipping so contact me directly (do NOT use my checkout).
